Local group hopes to “STOP NYRI”
SHERBURNE - Citizens from northern region of the Chenango Valley are organizing under a banner that couldn’t more clearly state their agenda: STOP NYRI!
New York Regional Interconnect Inc., an Albany-based subsidiary of American Consumer Industries from Wilmington, Del., is proposing the construction of a high voltage, direct current transmission line that would run from Marcy down to New Windsor. The power line would be supported by 115 foot steel towers, and would span nearly 200 miles along utility rights of way that rip through Oneida, Herkimer, Madison, Chenango, Delaware, Broome, Sullivan and Orange counties.
STOP NYRI, with plans to become an incorporated non-profit organization, met Monday night at the Sherburne Public Library to greet new members, discuss the upcoming Article VII process, outline their future plans, and examine the information compiled by their various research sub-committees.
