Council hasn’t appointed new mayor
NORWICH– A number of issues were discussed, but a new mayor was not appointed at last night’s City of Norwich Common Council Finance and Personnel Committee meeting. The next Common Council work session will be Thursday, June 15, and City Human Resources Director Deborah DeForest said that no official date has been set as to when the council will vote in the next city leader.
The finance committee did carry a resolution to create the position of a part-time code enforcement technician. Fire Chief John Tighe said the new position would alleviate the current overload of permit requests, building inspections, complaints, and office work currently being shouldered by Code Enforcement Officer Jason Lawrence. “Jason works nine to ten hours a day anyhow,” Tighe said, adding that some of Lawrence’s duties are being compromised because he doesn’t literally have the time. “We really need to get him some help.”
