Bluegrass is growing in New York!

NORWICH – The Cabin Fever Band is a band that has quickly become a well-known regional band. They have been to Nashville twice, and on their second trip, were invited to the home of Nashville Public Radio where they recorded an hour show. They are also featured in the magazine: Bluegrass Now where they are described as “a quartet that has a mesmerizing vocal blend” in the “Band to Watch” column of the March 2006 issue.
The Doerfel Family Bluegrass Band, a family of 10 children ranging in age from 6 months to 17 years, are a musically talented family that plays genuine, down-home bluegrass and gospel music. They are all home school and now pick full time as they travel throughout the US. They recently competed in a Bluegrass band competion at a National Convention in Nashville and placed 7th out of more than 40 other Bluegrass bands.
The Atkinson Family Band has been praised by Sing Magazine as having some of the tightest, three-part harmonies in bluegrass. Their sound reverberates with the traditions of Bill Monroe’s music with incorporating new groves and new tones.
The Delaney Brothers were chosen to appear on the main stage at the International Bluegrass Music Association Convention and received two encores after their rendition of America the Beautiful, shortly after the 9/11 tragedy. They strive for a professional appearance, tight vocals and new and different instrumental arrangements, the “New Traditionalism” of Bluegrass Music.
Al and Kathy Bain are named male and female Vocalist of the Year numerous times by the Northeast Country Music Association. And the legendary Smokey Green, a first generation Bluegrass icon is now considered the best solo performer in bluegrass.
“These bands receiving all these accolades must be from the South” you say. You may be surprised to find out that all of these great bands are from our great state of New York! People in the Northeast (and beyond) are learning what the northeast air and mountain goodness can produce when it comes to clean, clear, meaningful music that brings a tap of your toe, a smile to your face, and sometimes, a tear in your eye.

Mike and Maryann Tirella, Bill and Marion Kleine and Tom and Cheryl Doerfel have combined forces with the Chenango County Agricultural Society to produce what will prove to be one of the finest lineups of bluegrass music in the Northeast.
