Wal-Mart cuts ribbon on Supercenter
NORWICH – After being postponed due to serious flooding Wednesday, Wal-Mart finally had its grand opening this morning.
The Supercenter in the Town of Norwich had its ribbon cutting and grand opening celebration today, and is now ready to show the public the store which has doubled in size.
Over 2,500 applications were filled, and 300 new employees were added to the already 150. Store manager Constance Giordano said she is excited about the 195, 248 square foot store, which will now be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and offer a full line of groceries, organic foods, Hispanic and kosher foods, bakery goods, deli foods, frozen foods, meat and dairy products, fresh produce, a vision center, Regal Nails salon, Smart Style hair salon, Subway restaurant, beer and wine sales, and Wal-Mart Connect Center.
“We have a strong history of taking care of our associates, and the addition of these new roles creates a renewed sense of excitement about our future,” Giordano said. “We were thrilled to see the large pool of applications that speaks to our reputation as an employer, especially the benefits of working for Wal-Mart.”
Giordano also said since the store’s opening in 1994, 24 associates still remain, and 30 have worked there for more than 10 years.
“I feel I am proof that Wal-Mart associates have wonderful opportunities for advancement and growing their careers,” she said. “My career path has taken me to many places with Wal-Mart, and it’s wonderful to be operating a store not far from where I grew up (in Rome).”
The full day celebration includes a ribbon cutting with selected long-term associates, and a showing of the new store to all customers, where product samples and giveaways will be distributed throughout the day.
