Sherburne joins forces with Utica in anti-NYRI motion

SHERBURNE – In a joint effort with the City of Utica, The Village of Sherburne filed a 71-page response to the state Public Service Commission objecting to New York Regional Interconnect’s request for waivers in their application to build a high power line through both municipalities.

Sherburne Mayor William Acee and Utica Mayor Timothy J. Julian announced the joint venture Tuesday, saying the motion asked the PSC to consider NYRI’s financial capability to build their proposed power line. The response was filed by attorney Dan Duthie, the attorney representing the two municipalities.

“The Public Service Commission’s duty should be to protect the public. In doing so, they should aid in the design of a reliable public grid and not allow an unknown private entity to haphazardly throw together a power line to Band-Aid an aging infrastructure,” Acee said.
