Youth Days gets underway in New Berlin
NEW BERLIN – Milford Academy’s front lawn is filled with carnival rides for the 45th annual Youth Days celebration now underway.
The field started taking formation on Monday, and by Tuesday there were over five rides set up. The rides included the Merry Mixer, Musical Chairs, the Hampton Umbrella ride, and the Spinner.
A crew from Syracuse worked steadily to set up and test the rides before opening the midway. Main Event Amusements is owned by Kevin Jankiewicz and the crew provides midway entertainment throughout New York State from May until October every year. Jankiewicz has owned the business for five years and this will be his first time providing entertainment in New Berlin.
“We have heard great things and we are happy to be here,” Jankiewicz said.
The crew promises the field will be full and they are looking forward to putting on a great show. The midway opened on Thursday; events continue through the weekend.
Youth Days has been a longstanding tradition in New Berlin. All proceeds for Youth Days go directly to benefiting the youth groups within Chenango County. Groups wanting to receive some of the proceeds need to volunteer their time to make Youth Days possible.
From Thursday to Sunday, there are various events and attractions that will provide family fun. Two new events this year include a 9 a.m. Sunday firematics show on Fish Field and a Rotary duck derby at 10. The annual Miss Youth Days pageant takes place a 7 tonight at the Unadilla Valley Central School, and the Youth Days parade steps off in downtown New Berlin at 6 p.m. Saturday.
