SIDNEY – Oxford’s eight-year drought against Sidney ended Thursday night in a stunning victory over the traditionally-strong Warriors.

“It’s our first win in my seven years here,” said Oxford coach Tim Paden. “We had a really strong first half and controlled the tempo of play. I think this win will be an eye-opener to some people.”

Arik Nisbet tucked away the first of his two goals just 8 1/2 minutes into the game following a deflection in the penalty box. Cory Seiler then gathered a pass from older brother Scott to make it 2-0 with 1:37 left in the first half.

Nisbet scored the eventual game-winner bending in a long-range shot from 35 yards out into the upper far post early in the second half. “I think we fell prone to fatigue and some nagging injuries in the second half,” Paden said, who had just 13 players suited. “Sidney fought back hard and pressured us the last 15 minutes.”

DELHI – Avery Meehan scored just 1:49 into play for Delhi, and added a second goal 20 minutes later in the Bulldogs’ triumph over UV Thursday.

Eddie Reed and Kyle Capiello added second-half insurance tallies, and Cam Wentz made 10 saves.

UV is at Oxford next Thursday.
