NORWICH – The Nowich City School Board discussed policy, procedure and overall assessment at Tuesday night’s meeting, the last before the official start of school today.

Tackling issues regarding the BOCES building project was also a topic that led to discussion among board members. Norwich has the highest number of students attending BOCES programs, and therefore the city school district will take much of the liability for the re-modeling.

There is going to be a special liability reserve account set up to help the district. BOCES aid does not come into effect for one year after the loan is taken. The reserve will be used in order to save the taxpayers money. The cost the district is facing totals $50,000 and if the district starts saving now, it will ease the cost from the taxpayers in the end.

The board voted 7-0 in favor of establishing the reserve account.

The School Leadership Team representing the middle school also met with the board last night. The team discussed the Comprehension Education Plan (CEP). The team explained that the school is taking corrective action to address some its ongoing concerns for students. Attendance, behavior, aid, disabilities, individual assessment data, IEP reports and eventually the drop out rate were all topics of discussion.
