Lower Ravine Road to reopen Wednesday
NORWICH – The reopening of Lower Ravine Road in the Town of Norwich was announced at Monday’s town board meeting. The road will be open for travel Wednesday.
The road, severely damaged by the flood in late June, has been under repair ever since. When the level of the creek rose and debris gathered down stream, three culvert pipes within the creek were compromised, causing significant damage.
The roadway needed to be re-banked, paved and the guiderails needed to be rebuilt. The damage to the road itself has been repaired, but other problems are still awaiting FEMA and nearby homeowners’ approval. The road will be open, but the problem still remains as to what will happen if the area floods again.
All driveways got washed out in the June storm and ever since, those living on the road have had to travel through a field to get to their homes. The homes themselves sustained water damage from flooding.
