Bricks & Mortar Report
EDITOR’S NOTE: The Bricks & Mortar Report will provide updates every Monday on major construction projects in Chenango County.
B & D Pool and Spa:
• An October opening is planned for B&D Pool and Spa, located on state Route 12 South in the Town of Norwich.
• Store owner/manager Don Osterhout said the floors were poured, sheet rock installed and all lighting, electrical work and plumbing is completed.
• Interior painting, shelving and sidewalks construction occupy most of the work lately.
• Outdoor display pools won’t arrive until spring.
‘06 Flood Disaster infrastructure repair:
• State and federal level emergency management representatives continue to meet with local officials to discuss mitigation plans and funding for flood damaged roadways and bridges.
• Work crews continue to fix shoulders and clean culverts throughout the county.
• Washouts on county Routes 4, 32 and 34 have been repaired and the roads repaved. In the hamlet of Guilford, a second box culvert was installed on county Route 38 and contractors are scheduled to begin repairs and paving there and on county Route 35. The intersection and both roads are expected to be completely open Sept. 25 depending on weather conditions.
• Work crews began recycling county Route 28 in the Town of New Berlin, a project planned before the floods in June disrupted the schedule. The road should be paved in two weeks, Public Works Director Randy Gibbon said.
• Lower Ravine Road in the Town of Norwich was paved and opened last week. Town Supervisor David Law said the town would sponsor a mitigation application for the three homeowners across Gilmore Creek and presently cut off from Lower Ravine.
Lowe’s Home Improvement Center:
• L-O-W-E-S letters on the facade of the home improvement retail center and other signage went up recently at the development located on state Route 12 S. in the Town of Norwich.

• A Oct. 24 pre-opening is planned, followed by a grand opening sometime afterward in November.

• Construction of the bridge isn’t expected to be underway until 2008.
