Four friends exhibit work at Norwich gallery
NORWICH – The Chenango County Council of the Arts will be hosting a new exhibit beginning Friday called “Four Friends: Studies in Pastel.”. The show will include the work of four artists from the Greene and Binghamton areas. There will be an opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the 27 West Main St.. gallery. The artists will be in attendance.
The four artists have been friends for a long time and have challenged each other to create similar-styled paintings. The artists included are Nancy Goff, Ann Lavo Santacrose, Eileen Stevens and Martina Stolarcyk. There are portraits, scenarios and other works on display. “The exhibit has groupings of these themes by artists to show how each woman has approached the theme in her own style,” Arts Council Gallery Director, Deb Whitman said. Along with the comparative works there is also an area where the artist display their own individual works tailored to their specific delights and personalities.
The paintings are all done using pastels and if you miss the opening exhibit Friday, you can view the works Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. until early November.
The four artists travel the local area seeking out both landscapes and real people to aid their inspirations.
In a press release, Whitman said, “This show challenges the spectator to compare the artists differences while making it possible for them to appreciate their similarities. Pastel is the magnificent link that binds these artist/friends together.”
“There is a huge body of work here made by devoted artists that love their work,” said Whitman.
“It is a beautiful exhibit that connoisseurs of fine art and skill will thoroughly enjoy,” she said.
