NORWICH – Norwich ended a three-year winless streak against Southern Tier Athletic Conference opposition with a shutout win over Whitney Point Thursday.
Norwich dominated with 24 shots on goal, but didn’t break the scoreless tie until Alex Fanelli’s goal 15 minutes into the second half. Fanelli assisted on Sado Borcilo’s goal late in the game. “The kids were extremely excited with this win, and hopefully we can keep the momentum going,” said Norwich coach Hendrik Lowenstein. “We kept their goalie busy, and he did make some good saves.”

NEW BERLIN – Jessica Lorence connected on a shot from just inside the penalty box at 21:27 of the second half to give Unadilla Valley the victory over Walton Thursday.
The Storm quickly responded to the Warriors’ early lead. Less than one minute after Brittany O’Brien put the visitors on top, Sakura Gysin knotted the contest up on a set play with 1:25 left in the first session.
“This was a good bounce-back win after losing the other night at Bainbridge-Guilford,” said UV coach Chris Bieniek. The Storm play at Sidney Saturday.

Blake Shelton took a rebound off teammate Kelly Fernandez’s shot to score unassisted. “It was a pretty evenly matched game,” said Greene coach Randy Smith. “We had one defensive breakdown, and it cost us.”
Greene (6-5) is at Walton Wednesday.

WHITNEY POINT – The Trojans were sharp with their passing and relentless on offense in a shutout victory at Whitney Point Thursday.
Sara Ostrander received a pass off a penalty corner from Mary Rutz to open the scoring at 21:25 of the first half. Amanda Barton, Holly Davis, and Christine Conroe added goals for Greene, who had a season-high 39 shots. “Our passing and overall play were so much better than earlier in the week,” said Greene coach Sue Carlin, whose club is now 5-1 overall. “Their goalie (Whitney Point’s) made some quality saves. She kept the score down.”
Greene plays at Vestal Wednesday.

GREENE – Norwich qualified for the Class B team sectionals in the spring with a season-low score and three players posting their low match scores of the season.
Peter Somich shared match medalist honors firing a 36 over Genegantslet Golf Club’s front nine, while Jacob Kelly (38) and John Mattingly (39) posted their first sub-40 rounds in competition. “Qualifying for the team sectionals was a big goal of ours, so even though this is a loss, it was a win for us,” said Norwich coach Bob Branham.
Norwich hosts Whitney Point Tuesday.
