BAINBRIDGE – Sidney won a showdown of MAC Division One leaders blanking the Bobcats under the lights Wednesday.
Stephanie Meno scored both goals for Sidney, one after an indirect kick. “We were just totally outplayed tonight – we didn’t seem to have it,” said B-G coach George Williams.

Greene 6, Walton 3
WALTON – Blanked in the first half, Greene’s offense erupted in the second half for six goals in a win at Walton Wednesday.
After trading goals the first 30 minutes of the second half, Haley Burns’ second tally with nine minutes left put the Trojans up for good. Jessie Bates and Autumn Layton added tallies just over a minute apart in the final four minutes – both off Megan McDermott passes.
“We were spectators in the first half, and we had trouble stopping their offense until the final 15 minutes,” said Greene coach Randy Smith. “We passed it better in the second half and had some nice breakaways. We finally broke the net down a little bit.”
Greene (5-3, 7-5) hosts Bainbridge-Guilford Friday.

WELLS BRIDGE – Unatego’s Kelly Fernandez scored five minutes into the first overtime giving the Spartans a win over visiting UV Wednesday.
The Storm’s Sakura Gysin scored on a crossing pass from Amanda Peek just one minute into the game for the early lead. “We played well tonight and had a lot of opportunities,” said UV coach Chris Bieniek, who also credited the Storm’s goalie, Emily Sugar. “My hat’s off to Emily, she did an outstanding job.”

Field Hockey

Greene 3, Vestal 0
VESTAL – Greene upped the tempo in the second half scoring all of its goals to win its third straight game Wednesday at Vestal.
Sara Ostrander beat the Vestal defense for the first goal driving in from the left side, and threading the needle into the near post just three minutes into play. Holly Davis added a goal 2 1/2 minutes later, and Amanda Barton completed the scoring-by-committee offense.
Head coach Sue Carlin said a switch in the midfield keyed the second-half offense. “We moved Christine Conroe to center midfield, and she was a spark for us,” Carlin said. “She sees the field and distributes the ball well. She is also a scoring threat.”
Greene (6-1) hosts defending state champion Maine-Endwell Friday.

WEST WINFIELD – Dan Plows’ second goal of the game during a strong first part of the second half was the difference in Mt. Markham’s win over Sherburne-Earlville Tuesday night.

Cross Country

S-E splits
SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville split its dual meet scoring matchups with Waterville and Canastota beating the former, 21-34, while falling to the latter, 19-46.
Mitch Boise topped the S-E boys placing second out of 38 runners timing a 16:51 over the three-mile course, while Brett Buell was 12th in 19:55.
The Marauders’ girls did not field a complete team due to absence, and Brianne Swarting led the quartet of S-E runners placing 17th in 30:15. S-E head coach Anne Geary said all over the girls showing considerable improvement in their times compared to last weekend’s S-E Invitational.
The Marauders run in the E.J. Hermann Invitational Saturday at Utica.

Norwich 14th at STAC Championships
BIG FLATS – Norwich’s Ryan Evans placed 15th overall for the Tornado at the STAC Championships Wednesday at Willow Creek Golf Club, and Norwich was 14th overall out of 18 teams.
Peter Somich added an 86 for Norwich, Jacob Kelly shot a 90, Brian Carson a 92, adn Ryan Cambron turned in a 103.

OXFORD – Oxford and Greene split the four contested matches, however, a forfeit at third singles gave the Blackhawks a one-point edge and their second win this season.
