Barbecue restaurant opens doors
NORWICH – Road House Bar-B-Que is now open for business. The new restaurant is located on State Highway 12 between Norwich and North Norwich.
“Five years ago we started to get the idea to bring real barbecue to the Norwich area.” said Shannon Purdy. owner and operator. “It was kind of always a dream,” she said. The Road House is open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
The restaurant is owned by Larry Leight, Dale Purdy, his wife Shannon, and their son Christopher. The restaurant received a full makeover before opening, “We started from scratch,” said Shannon. “We make everything, including our baked goods,” she said. The restaurant creates all its own food and sauces from their own original “family recipes.” “Nothing is frozen,” said Shannon. The Road House has it own smoker and barbecue pits outside, and has a complete grill and kitchen inside.
The four owners all have some background in the restaurant business, but this is their first attempt at running their own. Dale holds a degree in business, Chris worked for a barbecue restaurant in Albany for 10 years and Leight has a background in meat handling and preparation.
The Road House has 22 employees, many of them with experience in the food service industry. “We tried to hire people that had experience; our success depends on having people learn to work as a team,” said Shannon.
The restaurant owners plan on delivering food in the near future. They also want to remodel the restaurant’s basement and make it a banquet hall. They are also looking at creating a mobile unit to be used as a concession stand at public events.
“Hopefully we will be able to open another store some time down the road,” said Shannon.
