GREENE – Greene did not yield easily to the defending state champions, and the Trojans were the first Section IV team to extend the Spartans to an overtime period this season.
Sara Sanders scored unassisted at the 5:34 mark of overtime giving M-E the victory. It was the second loss for Greene (6-2) this season, and both have come in overtime. “Jessica (Smith) played awesome in goal, and the defense was outstanding,” said Greene coach Sue Carlin. “We missed some little opportunities, but they will come. Maine-Endwell is a great team and they do not have a weak spot on the field. They have 11 solid players, and when you get past one superstar, you run into another.”
Greene hosts Owego Tuesday.

NEW BERLIN – Shayne Wilcox had his first career hat trick scoring UV’s first three goals as the Storm avenged a 4-0 opening-game loss to the Bulldogs, and closed the gap in MAC division title chase.
Juston Parks and Andy Hayes added goals for the Storm (7-3), who have now won seven of their last eight games. “We played much better this game, and we finished when we had opportunities,” said UV coach Matt Osborne.

GREENE – Jennifer Patten scored a go-ahead and insurance goal in the final five minutes of play to give B-G a win at Greene Friday.
The Trojans’ Haley Burns scored both of her team’s goals, and knotted the contest connecting on a direct kick with 12 minutes left in regulation.
Marcie Day and Jackie Reynolds added tallied for B-G, who led 2-0 at halftime.

NORWICH – Norwich showed a bend-but-not-break defense allowing just a pair of first-half goals to Chenango Valley (7-3-1), who managed 30 shots on goal Friday.
Norwich’s Amy Clemens collected 15 saves. “We marked extremely well and this was an outstanding defensive game for us,” said Norwich coach Scotty Decker. “We had some chances on offense, but didn’t put them in.”
Norwich is at Sherburne-Earlville today.

OWEGO – Norwich avenged a 4-3 loss to the Indians from earlier this season, and moved into a tie for second with the Indians in the STAC Central Division.
Victoria Cole rallied in each of the first two sets to defeat Laura Dragon, 6-4, 6-3. Jen Zieno added a win at second singles, and Norwich’s first and second doubles teams added victories.
“Victoria knew she was the fourth point (to win the match),” said Norwich coach John Stewart, “and she showed a lot of poise to come back in each set.”

DELHI – Greene completed a regular season sweep of Delhi for the first time in the program’s history taking its seventh win of the season Friday night.
Trojans freshman Helen Zaengle lowered her own school-record in the 200 individual medley timing a 2:24.73. Greene also added one-two finishes in the 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle, and 200 individual medley to pad its advantage. “The kids are continuing to lower times and the morale has been outstanding,” said Greene coach Mike Platta. “We’re looking forward to the league championships in less than three weeks.”
Greene hosts Cooperstown Tuesday.

CONKLIN – Despite winning five out of the 12 events, Susquehanna Valley over visiting Norwich by 28 points Friday evening.
Rachel Lorenz had four overall victories winning two events and teaming on two victorious relays. Gabby Chwazik-Gee posted her best time in the 100 breaststroke this season winning in 1:15.34.

Cross Country

Boise second in E.J. Hermann Varsity B Race
UTICA – Mitch Boise led the S-E boys’ contingent at the E.J. Hermann Invitational Saturday finishing second in the Varsity B race in 17:28. The Marauders, as a team, wound up 15th in team scoring.
Brett Buell was 57th in 20:17 and Matt Taylor 86th in 21:36.
S-E sophomore Jasmine Huff led the S-E girls timing a 24:02 to place 29th.
