Oxford 6, Unatego 2
OXFORD – Oxford closed the season on a four-game winning streak defeating Afton Friday and Unatego Saturday to wind up one-game out of first place in the loss column.
The Blackhawks raced to a 6-0 lead in the first half against Afton getting early goals from Cory Seiler and Kilean Maynard. Maynard finished with a hat trick. “We had six different players score in this game, so it was good to see us sharing the wealth offensively,” said Oxford coach Tim Paden.
Unatego, too, found itself in a big hole early trailing the Blackhawks (9-4-4) 3-0 at halftime. Kyle Farrington had his first two-goal game, and Maynard added two more goals. Taylor Bates, and Brandon Winter got into the scoring mix as well. “We’re peaking at the perfect time and playing good soccer at this point,” Paden said. “One of the nice things is our offensive balance. With have four guys with at least five goals and four guys with at least five assists. Things are spread out, and that’s a good thing.”
