Calvary Baptist begins new slate of programs

NORWICH – In a brand new initiative, Calvary Baptist Church is offering several free support programs to help people of all ages and backgrounds better learn how to overcome their problems and gain stronger life experiences.
Professionals and experienced facilitators will be leading four anonymous groups focused on common, and sometimes uncommon, issues related to marriage, recovery and motherhood, along with offering a supervised games and activities group that runs during the seminars, for kids ages three up to those in the fifth grade.
“These programs are not just geared toward people with serious problems,” said Calvary Baptist’s Pastor Brian Conover. “They are also for people who want to fine tune their lives – and we give them the tools to do that.”
Conover said the group seminars are an effort to help all community members, and being part of the congregation at Calvary is not required or relevant. “Our church for a long time has had contact with our community,” said Conover. “With these programs, we want to connect with our community – that is a big difference.”
The four seminars are described as; “I Promise,” a group focused on re-focusing couples back toward the real meaning of marriage, and recognizing the hard work it entails; “Celebrate Recovery” acknowledges the hardships of overcoming past addictions and traumatic events, and is meant to give people the guidance to move further away from those experiences; “Mothers of Preschoolers” (MOPS) is a group guided by experienced professional moms that targets the special needs of mothers with small children and offers tried and true tips to ease stress; “Reaching Our Community Kids” (R.O.C.K.), gives kids a chance to build relationships in a safe and fun environment during the seminars. If a someone enrolled in a group has a child in R.O.C.K., a pager will be provided to them so they can be contacted for whatever reason while in a group session.
The groups will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday nights. The first night of seminars is tomorrow night. To register, get directions, and gather more information about the group seminars, contact the Calvary Baptist Church office at 334-6698. For those who cannot attend the first sessions, space will still be available for later meetings, but registration is still required.
