Fire destroys city home

NORWICH – A fire ripped through a small home in the City of Norwich Tuesday. At around 3 p.m., firefighters received a call about a house fire at 11 North Delaware Square. Norwich firefighters, with the help of the Oxford Fire Department, battled the blaze that was “pretty quickly” brought under control, said Police Chief Joseph Angelino, who is also the acting Norwich fire chief.

Firefighters remained at the scene until late yesterday evening, leaving almost five hours after responding to the call. “They did a magnificent job,” said Angelino. The Norwich Fire Department had the opportunity to use its brand new tanker truck while fighting the fire and everything went smoothly, said Angelino.
