Christmas parade draws record crowd

NORWICH – The annual “Christmas to Remember” Parade of Lights drew record crowds to downtown Norwich Saturday night. Perhaps due to unseasonably warm weather, police estimated the crowd along Broad Street to be between eight and ten thousand. Winners in the parade competition were divided into two categories, fire companies and floats.

Fire Company Awards

1st Place - Oxford Fire Department

2nd Place - George Rider Hooks, City of Norwich

3rd Place - Maydole Company, City of Norwich

4th Place - Brisben Fire Department

5th Place - Greene Fire Department

Float Awards

1st Place - The Evening Sun

2nd Place - American Legion Post 189

3rd Place - Wilber National Bank, Norwich Branch

4th Place - Donna Frech School of Dance

5th Place - GHS Federal Credit Union

In addition to the fire truck and float awards, four lucky winners’ names were drawn to receive brand new bicycles donated by Chiarino Insurance and Norwich Wal-Mart:

Girls

Stephanie Montgomery of South New Berlin and Kalie Fleming of Norwich.

Boys

Stephen Kuhn of Norwich and Steven Guiles of Norwich.
