OXFORD – Juston Parks had 16 points for Unadilla Valley, and junior guard Mason Wyman hit two free throws in the final 15 seconds to seal the Storm’s first win of the season.
Oxford, down 41-39, forced a five-second violation with 23 seconds left to earn an opportunity to tie the game. The Blackhawks, plagued by turnovers throughout the game, had one more critical miscue that led to Wyman’s decisive points. “We continue to struggle with our offense,” said Oxford coach Tim Davis, whose club has scored 40, 40, and 39 points in its first three games. “We’re missing some easy baskets and turning it over too much. We forced a lot of turnovers tonight, and we didn’t capitalize.”
Ben Burdick scored 15 points to lead Oxford (0-3).

B-G 54, Greene 51 (OT)
BAINBRIDGE – After forcing a shot-clock violation late in the game, B-G’s Kenny Pixley made a save of a full-court pass that found the hands of Toby Shields for the tying basket to force overtime.
In the extra period, the Trojans’ Mike Porter scored in the first 10 seconds of overtime – his team’s only points – and Willie McGinnis keyed an opening win for the Bobcats scoring the tying basket en route to a 19-point, 10-rebound game.
“Our starting lineup played great defense the whole game, and we held them without a basket the first 6 1/2 minutes of the game,” said B-G coach Ben Nelson. “They just played the night before, and I’m sure that helped us.”
Greene erased a nine-point first quarter shortfall as the Bobcats’ McGinnis was on the bench with foul trouble. Porter had 13 points for Greene, who fell to 2-2.

SHERBURNE – The S-E reserves held the fort with leading scorers Wilson Rose and Jon Pinney on the bench, and the Rose-Pinney combination returned with points aplenty in the third quarter in the Marauders’ win Tuesday.
Pinney and Rose took a seat on the bench most of the second quarter, and in their stead, head coach Kevin Vibbard praised the play of bench insertions Tom Niles, Caleb Johnson, and Garrett Porack. “We got a lot of good minutes out of those guys,” Vibbard said.
Pinney and Rose combined for all 21 of S-E’s points in the third quarter turning a six-point lead into a 19-point margin. “We talked about our lack of defensive intensity during halftime, and we started the third quarter on a 14-0 run,” Vibbard added.

BAINBRIDGE – A Section IV semifinalist a year ago, B-G may be poised for another run at a sectional title after routing Greene Tuesday in what has long been a competitive local rivalry.
Nicole Conway, Jen Patten, and Mariah Schaeffer combined for 54 points to pace the Bobcats in their first outing of the season. Conway had 19, Schaeffer 18, and Patten 17. “I thought we played extremely well defensively, and they didn’t get a lot of good looks at the basket,” said B-G coach Bob Conway. “They closed the lead on us in the second quarter, but Patten and Conway hit back-to-back three-pointers, and we kind of crept away with the lead after that.”
Patten nearly had a triple-double totaling nine assists and eight rebounds with her points. Sam Spalholz contributed seven assists and seven rebounds.
Greene sophomore, Megan McDermott, led her team with 12 points.

G-MU 48, Franklin 23
COPES CORNERS – G-MU made Franklin pay dearly for diverting its defensive attention on Raiders sophomore Dani Conway.
Conway, G-MU’s top returning scorer, was blanketed in a box-and-one defense that freed up the Raiders’ outside shooters. An eight-point halftime lead was padded to 19 after three periods after Brittney Rudnitsky canned two three balls and Sam Brooks added the third trey. “Franklin has a good trio of players, and they played us tough for a while,” said G-MU coach Jim Johnson.
Conway had 13 points and 10 rebounds for G-MU (5-1), while Rudnitsky and Terra Moore scored 10 apiece.

Wrestling

Oneonta 48, Norwich 27
NORWICH – Norwich gained a few more wins over its first match this season, but dropped to 0-2 Tuesday against Oneonta.
Mike Rogers and Rick Reihl grabbed their first dual meet wins of the season as the Tornado led 12-6 early. Eric Muserallo added a win by technical fall, while Tanner Cummings and Josh Steward gained points for Norwich. “We just need to fill our lineup, and it’s tough to win when you’re giving up points by forfeits,” said Norwich coach Terry Hagenbuch. “For the most part our wins came from the guys who have experience. We have a really green lineup, and this is a tough sport to throw young kids in there.”
Norwich is at Whitney Point Thursday.

WELLS BRIDGE – Coming off a third-place finish at the Clyde Cole Tournament last weekend, B-G/Afton rolled to an opening-match win at Unatego.
Paul Parsons (130), an eighth-grader reversed a loss to Unatego’s Shawn Hanrahan winning by pinfall. The Bears had three eighth-graders in their starting lineup, and all three were decisive winners. “We tweaked some things with Parsons, and that was a nice turnaround,” said B-GA coach Brandon MacNaught. “There’s a period of adjustment moving up to varsity, but our young guys will only get better and better.”
The Bears are at Tioga Thursday.

Swimming

Norwich 56, S-E 42
SHERBURNE – With its superior depth and an experienced lineup, Norwich captured all 12 events against an undermanned S-E team Tuesday in a non-league meet.
“The difference was obvious: We have 19 swimmers, of which 10 are seniors, and Sherburne-Earlville is just in its second year of varsity swimming after having a few years off,” said Norwich coach Rick Marchant. “Sherburne-Earlville will see improvement as it gains experience.”
Mike Delmonico, Dooger Wenzel, Kane Streichert, Evan Wendt, Ryan Marchant, Ryan Cambron, Ethan Hitchcock, Nick Follett, and Christof Knappe made it nine different swimmers in nine events with victories.
“Because this was only a four-lane pool, we were able to swim fewer events per man,” Marchant said. “As a result, we saw some very good times for so early in the season.”
