NORWICH A classic tale, spun like no other, will be coming to life in movie theaters this week. "Charlotte’s Web," a story of dedication, friendship and loyalty is a heartwarming family tale filled with values closely linked to the 4-H Youth Development program. The movie opens today at Colonia Theater in Norwich.  “4-H encourages young people to use their head, heart, hands and health to become strong, confident and contributing citizens. Similarly, in ‘Charlotte’s Web,’ Fern uses her head, heart, hands and health to encourage family and friends to save Wilbur from the smokehouse,” said Liz Bunce, Extension Educator for youth development.

Hard work and dedication is shown throughout the film in various ways and Wilbur shows exactly the level of commitment young people make in 4-H programs.  “Whether they are raising a pig, designing a web site or participating in local community service activities, the film gives children confidence in themselves through their 4-H efforts,” said Bunce. “Fern exemplifies the essential elements of 4-H Youth Development such as belonging, mastery, independence and generosity, as she helps to save Wilbur and brings a community together.”

“Charlotte’s Web” is a tale that has been heard, seen and read for decades and with every new generation the tale is seen in a new light. 4-H works to open the same door for young people to learn of leadership, citizenship and life skills just as it is shown in “Charlotte’s Web.”
