Unadilla Valley 65, Hancock 23
NEW BERLIN – Unadilla Valley won its fourth straight game after an 0-2 start getting 15 points, seven steals and six assists from senior Theresa Lazarus.
UV had its most productive start to a game this season as Katelyn Ross hit two three balls in the first, Lazarus scored six, while Hannah Johnson and Career Acre each had a pair of buckets. “We pressed them early on, and that dictated the whole game,” said UV coach Daryl Decker.
Johnson finished with 10 points and Ross added five steals and five rebounds.

O’Hara, a 6-foot-1 center, finished with 23 points and Colleen O’Hara added 10. “MacKensey was a load to handle, and we just couldn’t keep her away from the basket,” Conway said.

Boys’ Basketball

Norwich 61, Owego 46
OWEGO – After back-to-back losses, one of which was a disheartening overtime defeat to Johnson City, Norwich rebounded with its biggest win of the season topping defending Section IV Class A champion Owego Tuesday.
“We just played outstanding team basketball at both ends of the floor,” said Norwich coach Mark Abbott. “We played with great passion, great energy, and great focus.”
Abbott credited a defensive scheme devised by assistant coach Tom Collier as a key to the game. The Tornado focused on slowing Owego forward Jack Keough and guard Phil Arnold. Keough was around his season average scoring 19 points, but Arnold was held to four. “We knew Keough would get his points, but we thought we could control Arnold,” Abbott said. “Shane Thompson, Chris Mattingly, and Nate Foote did a good job covering him and shut him down. That was a big key defensively.”
Amos Parry finished with a career-high 24 points, and was often the recipient of a dump-off pass from one of Norwich’s penetrating guards. Senior captain Robert Martin returned to the lineup after missing last Friday’s game due to illness, and scored 16 points.
Norwich led by six after one period and extended the margin in every quarter. Over the final eight minutes, all five of the Tornado baskets were layups, and they were successful on all four foul shot attempts.
“Offensively we had great rhythm the whole game, whether they played man or zone,” Abbott said. “The fourth quarter we played keep away and ran the shot clock down every possession. We put on a clinic taking care of the ball.”

S-E 48, Waterville 37
SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville extended its unbeaten run this season to eight games, and the final margin of 11 points did not do justice to yet another smothering defensive performance.
Marauders head coach Kevin Vibbard pulled his leading scorers after three periods when his club had firmly established control leading 46-17. Only Waterville’s 20-2 final stanza made it respectable.
“We were concerned with their size, but we really put a lot of pressure on their guards, and they had a hard time getting the ball inside,” Vibbard said.
Jon Pinney led S-E with 15 points and Gabe Fowler chipped in with nine. Garrett Porack provided a spark off the bench scoring all eight of his points in the first half as S-E built a 35-11 lead.

Susquehanna Valley 37, Norwich 30
CONKLIN – Mike Hull and Donald Towndrow picked up their first wins in dual meet competition this season, and Teddy Jerome (135) recorded his first pin of the season in Norwich’s defeat at Sus Valley Tuesday.
Hull (112) and Towndrow (215) both won by pinfall as well in the Tornado’s best effort to date. Giving up three forfeits in the first four bouts proved to be the Purple’s undoing. “We had some guys out due to injury and illness that definitely hurt our chances of getting that first win,” said Norwich coach Terry Hagenbuch. “We started out with so much inexperience this season, but the kids are improving. It’s been a trial by fire, but they’re not backing down.”
Norwich competes in the Windsor Tournament Dec. 28.

Greene 105, Windsor 76
WINDSOR – Greene diver Chris Osterwald set his fourth school record in four meets raising the bar seven more points and over 40 since the start of the season.
“In a meet like this that I thought we should win, I had our divers put in the tougher dives, and Chris was hitting them,” said Greene coach Mike Platta.
Patrick Kelsey had a pair of individual wins for the Trojans, Osterwald added wins in two relays, and David Yeager swam on all three victorious relays. “It’s always nice to get a win against a STAC school,” Platta said. “We were able to get some decent swims, and we didn’t know what the other team had.”
