Warriors battle past Norwich in overtime

Chenango Valley 79, Norwich 76 (OT)
NORWICH – Norwich would just as soon take a pass on the extra time.
Chenango Valley rallied from a 14-point third-quarter deficit, and beat Norwich Tuesday night in overtime. It was the second extra session loss at home for Norwich this season, who dropped a five-point decision to Johnson City in December.
The Warriors trailed 47-33 with 2:06 left in the third period after Norwich’s Amos Parry put back an offensive rebound. After that, the Warriors were seldom denied on the offensive end finishing the quarter on a 9-0 run, then scoring the first seven points of the last quarter to grab the lead for the first time.
Over the final six minutes, the lead changed hands eight times, and Norwich appeared to gain control after Shane Thompson hit two free throws after a steal with 8.3 seconds left to give his club a 64-62 lead.
CV junior Matt Mullins took the inbounds pass after a timeout, and drove the length of the floor scoring with a second left to force overtime.
Eric Bidwell scored on a layup moments into the extra period, and Mullins completed a four-point play a minute later hitting a trey, getting fouled, and making the freebie for the 70-64 advantage.
Norwich trailed 74-67 with 1:27 left before making one last rally. Robert Martin made two free throws, the Warriors turned the ball over on the next inbounds pass, Martin bagged a layup in the post, and Nate Foote hit a three ball after a Mullins basket closing the gap to 76-74.
Seth Mohney was fouled with 35.5 seconds left and hit one of two foul shots, but on the miss, he grabbed his own offensive rebound. In the scramble that developed following the Mohney rebound, Eric Kisloski dropped in a layup to ice the contest. “It was not a typical game for us,” said Norwich coach Mark Abbott. “Our offense played great, but at times our defense really struggled. A lot of that has to do with their offensive talent.”
Contained much of the game, Mullins scored 16 of his 24 points during the fourth quarter and overtime to lead his team.
Martin scored 23 points for Norwich, Nate Foote had 11, while Patrick Coates and Amos Parry netted 10 apiece.
Parry had six and Foote five points in the third period, helping Norwich (8-4) establish its double-digit lead.

BAINBRIDGE – B-G/A coach Brandon MacNaught speaks often of damage control, and his club salvaged valuable team points in spots, and gained in unexpected matchups to top UV Tuesday.
Darin Terpstra (119) put the Bears on a four-match roll in which the host club gained command, and 140-pounder Danny Parsons went the distance with UV’s returning section champion, Shayne Wilcox, losing a decision. “In the big duals, this is a team effort and everyone has to know their job,” MacNaught said. “They’re buying into that concept. I was nervous about this dual because UV matches up very well with us.”
