Tax prep program unveiled

NORWICH – On Saturday, members of the Earned Income Tax Credit Partnership Committee kicked off this year’s tax season.

Representatives from several local agencies attended the event to inform the public of their eligibility for the Earned Income Tax Credit. The Super Saturday event also informed participants of the 12 local tax preparation sites that will prepare your taxes free of charge between January and April.

Chenango United Way Director and Chair of the County EITC Partnership Committee Elizabeth Monaco introduced the program.

“The first year we prepared less than 50 tax returns,” Monaco said. This number has been steadily increasing. Last year more than 150 returns were filed and more than $140,000 was distributed as part of the EITC. This year the organization is hoping to prepare more than 500 tax returns.
