Cough it up for SPCAs Fur Ball

NORWICH - Tables and crates are overflowing with over 100 colorful plush stuffed animals of all sizes and shapes at the Chenango County SPCA, donated by the Gund Foundation and Bartle’s Pharmacy. For a donation of $10, you can adopt one of these delightful creatures at the CCSPCA’s 3rd Annual Valentine Fur Ball on February 10th at the Canasawacta Country Club, and receive an official Adoption Certificate. Proceeds will benefit CCSPCA.
Typically when you adopt a pet from the CCSPCA, you then have to feed it, train it and take it to a vet. The unique thing about this adoption, other than the fact that no housebreaking or litter training is needed, is that all of these adopted animals don’t go home with you. They will all be given to Catholic Charities of Chenango County for children in their Domestic Violence & Crime Victims Program, which provides support, counseling, referrals, education and safe housing for victims of domestic violence and their dependent children. These cuddly stuffed animals will help give a sense of comfort and security for children in stressful situations.
Catholic Charities has been assisting people in need in the area since 1978, and operates the Childrens’ Center in downtown Norwich among its many programs and services, and some of these “adopted” animals will undoubtedly end up in the arms of the 70 children, ages 6 months to 12 years, the Center currently serves.
Maggie O’Connor, Senior Advocate of Catholic Charities of Chenango County, said, “We are more than grateful and appreciative to be a part of this event, and to have the opportunity to work ‘hand in paw’ with the CCSPCA to benefit the children of the community.”
You can also adopt a stuffed animal with the purchase of a Guardian Angel Patron ticket, $100 in advance of the event. A Guardian Angel Patron ticket includes admission to the Fur Ball, an “adopted” stuffed animal and listing in the CCSPCA’s spring newsletter, The Mew Barker. A regular reservation to the Fur Ball is $35 per person.
A gala evening of delicious gourmet fare, cash bar, live music and dance is planned for the 3rd Annual Valentine Fur Ball. The Canasawacta Country Club will be decked out with hearts, flowers, in addition to hundreds of  cuddly plush animals, as the CCSPCA kicks off a year-long celebration of its 100th Anniversary.
Entertainment will begin at 7 p.m. with music you can dance to by “Rooster and the Roadhouse Horns”, courtesy of Rea-D Pack Foods. Dining opportunities will include gourmet fare prepared by the Canasawacta Country Club and a variety of desserts and confections, including chocolate fountains for dipping fruit and nuts. This will be highlighted by a special 100th Anniversary Birthday Cake and a cash bar will be available.
The 3rd Annual Valentine Fur Ball is made also possible through the generosity of major corporate sponsors including Hayes Office Products, NBT Bank, Procter & Gamble Pharmaceuticals. Additional support was provided by the Norwich WalMart and many other local businesses.
For out-of-town attendees at the Fur Ball, or if the roads are too bad to drive home safely, the Norwich Super 8 is offering a $35 room rate. Pets are welcome.
To make reservations to the Valentine’s Fur Ball at $35 each, or to be a Guardian Angel Patron for $100, contact Sue at the CCSPCA by Monday, Feb. 5; 334-9724, ext. 6.
