GUILFORD – The Guilford Historical Society will be holding the annual spring social on Saturday starting at noon at the Guilford United Methodist Church. The highlight of the days activities is a special program at 1 p.m. with author, guest speaker John Taibi. John has been researching the O&W for a number of years and will present a power point program of many of the early depots and the history of the “Old and Weary.”
 Taibi has presented a slide show previously but, since then, he has found many more interesting facts and photos of the people who were the every day workers of the railroad. He has a new publication, available through Barnes and Noble, “Remembering the New York, Ontario & Western Railway” which is chock full of some of the photographs to be seen in Saturday’s presentation. The social runs from noon to 3 p.m. 
 The town of Guilford prospered as a result of this train line. Villages and settlements such as Trestle and Parker (Guilford Center), and the Summit sprang up with train stops for milk, creamery stations and passenger depots. Taibi’s presentation includes the Town of Guilford and many of the villages that grew and felt the demise of the railway. Behind the scenes, were many employees also felt the impact of the railway=s success and the sting of its failure. Taibi’s presentation gives life to the station agents/operators who worked for the New York, Ontario & Western Railway.
 There will be displays to view of the research of the history of Guilford and its hamlets. Come see our latest collections of photographs, genealogies, and scrapbooks.  Refreshments will be served. A great lunch will be available provided by Bill Whyte, chef and owner of the famous Yaleville Inn. There will also be door prize drawings and a Valentine cake and quilt raffle. So, plan to take an armchair ride on the O & W with The Guilford Historical Society. Come at noon, view the displays, eat, and socialize before the 1 p.m. departure on “the Butter and Cheese Express” with John Taibi.
