B-G 41, Oxford 35
OXFORD – B-G showed the mettle of a champion scoring the game’s last 11 points over the final 3:27 of play to secure the Bobcats’ ninth division title under head coach Bob Conway Tuesday.
Jennifer Patten tied the game with two free throws after a steal, and Mariah Schaeffer’s two free throws with 1:45 to play put her club up 37-35. Nicole Conway added a spot-up 15-foot shot on the baseline to pad the advantage.
Oxford rallied from a 13-1 lead in the first quarter briefly taking the lead in the second quarter, moving in front in the third, and extending that margin to as many as five points in the fourth.
Marcie Day converted a three-point play for B-G (15-2), while Schaeffer added a three ball to help spur the turnaround. “We got out of synch a little bit in the second and third quarters with foul trouble,” Conway said. “We played with more urgency at the end of the game and picked up our intensity.”
Julie Davis scored 12 points for Oxford and Alysa Law had 11. Davis scored eight of her points in the last quarter. “We’ve been in a couple games like this where we weren’t able to finish,” said Oxford coach Brad Aldrich. “B-G’s defense stepped it up in the fourth quarter.”
Schaeffer led the Bobcats with 12 points and Patten ended with 11.
