Crash claims life of Oxford woman

OXFORD – This morning the Chenango County Medical Examiner’s Office declared the victim of a motor vehicle accident dead at the scene. Andrea Chouinard, 23, County Road 3, Oxford, was discovered inside her vehicle at around 7 a.m., although police are still investigating the actual time of the accident which may have taken place much earlier.
Chouinard was traveling southbound on County Road 32, between Oxford and Norwich, in the Town of Oxford, when she apparently lost control of her vehicle, which crossed the yellow divider, struck the edge of the guardrail and caused her vehicle to become airborne. The vehicle then went crashing into the south side of the Chenango River. “She died instantly we believe of severe head trauma. She was not wearing her seat belt,” said Sheriff’s deputies.
The Chenango County Sheriff’s Department is leading the investigation into the accident and Oxford Fire Department Emergency Squad assisted at the scene. The Sheriff’s department said they are still investigating the cause of the crash and at approximately what time it took place.
