Pair of exhibits open at Earlville Opera House gallery

EARLVILLE – John J. Fitzsimmons has found his way to the Earlville Opera House and will present his work on Saturday.

The exhibit “Finding the Quiet” will reside at the EOH gallery from March 3 through April 14, with an opening reception from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the East Gallery. All are welcome to attend, and refreshments will be served.

Drawing one into an intimate space in nature, Fitzsimmons’ work is said to cause one to lose the sense of separation from their surroundings.

“My painting explores the intimate space experienced as a ‘witness to a slice of life.’ I gravitate towards the random, the chaotic and the awkward in my paintings and I make use of those unresolved tensions. I am looking for the drama in the quiet and the quite in the drama, the layers and the light and the feeling that is sublime,” said Fitzsimmons.

Fitzsimmons works with drawings, onsite painted studios, photographs and memory to construct his work. He says he takes what could be considered a random glance of a tree, stream or a patch of ground and explores its space and light.
