Crusaders fare well in Poconos tourney

LAKE ARIEL, Pa. – The Valley Heights Christian Academy basketball teams travelled to Lake Ariel, Pennsylvania to compete in the 19th annual NPCA Invitational Tournament on March 1-3.

The Lady Crusaders began their tournament strong with a 48-11 victory over Lebanon Christian of Lebanon, PA.  Hannah Vidler netted 20 points and Rebecca Somers added 12.  In the semifinal game, VHCA met up with tournament host Canaan Christian and was defeated 48-32.  Canaan would go on to capture its 2nd straight tournament championship.  In the third-place game, VHCA outlasted league rival Cortland Christian 39-34 behind Kristina Miedema's team high 11 points.

The boys’ squad had a different path to travel.  Starting as the eighth seed in this year's bracket, VHCA was matched up with ninth seed Maranatha Christian of Watsontown, PA.  VHCA won the contest 61-52 behind 23 points from Roger Rose and 22 from Luke Halberg.  In the  second round, VHCA found itself playing top seed Fairview Christian from Reading, PA, and  was defeated 67-44.  Rose led all scorers with 25 points.
