Fire destroys Guilford home

GUILFORD – A fire broke out in a Guilford home early Thursday morning. Three departments responded to the call, but were unable to save the home, located next to the former Pillars tavern at the intersection of county routes 35 and 36 in the Town of Guilford.

The fire reportedly began between 6:30 and 7 a.m. on Thursday morning. According to Guilford Assistant Fire Chief Ken Haynes, one person was home at the time of the fire, but was able to escape the blaze unharmed.

Through mutual aid, the Oxford and Mount Upton Fire Departments also responded to the fire. According to Haynes, the departments were on the scene for approximately six hours. Although no one was hurt, ambulances remained on the scene to check the vital signs of the firemen as they came out of the house.
