Greenway trail group receives tax exempt designation
NORWICH –The Chenango Greenway Conservancy, Inc. has been designated as a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization by the Internal Revenue Service.
The CGC is a not-for-profit corporation formed in 2006 by a group of Norwich residents committed to constructing and maintaining a public recreational trail through the city along the Chenango River. The designation enables the group to accept tax deductible donations in support of the project, including interests in real property, professional services and building materials.
Sharon Pelosi, a local attorney and member of the CGC Board of Directors said, “The 501(c)(3) status is a powerful tool that will help us attract the resources needed to complete this long-standing project.”
The CGC has also recently been awarded a New York state Department of Health’s “Healthy Trails, Healthy People” grant through Parks and Trails New York to develop public relations materials. A public meeting is planned in the near future to provide an opportunity to learn about the river front trail.
