County funds lawsuit against power line

NORWICH - Lawmakers amended a resolution tabled last month that would have authorized $5,000 to Communities Against Regional Interconnect (CARI) for legal expenses in the fight against New York Regional Interconnect, Inc.

The resolution previously expressed the county’s opposition to the transmission line, but stated that the sum would be approved only upon similar participation of other counties.

Town of Pharsalia Supervisor Dennis Brown proposed changing the resolution’s wording to include the approval of $25,000 now and setting $25,000 aside in reserve until other parties have made similar commitments. County Attorney Richard E. Breslin said Madison County’s legislature had agreed to do the same.
