OXFORD – Trevor Nelson’s hard infield grounder led to an error and scored the winning run for Oxford (9-1), who rallied from six runs down to defeat B-G Friday.
James Ruff stroked a two-run single in the second for B-G, and Kyle Davy, Chris McGinnis, and Brett Hayes drove in runs to put the Bobcats up by half a dozen. “We have a lot of senior leadership on this team, guys expect to win, and that showed today,” said Oxford coach Chris Palmer.
Steve Locke pitched 5 1-3 scoreless innings of relief quieting the B-G bats to earn the victory. Locke also went 4-for-4 on the day to lead Oxford’s batters.

ONEONTA – A 10-run third inning for Oneonta erased Norwich’s brief one-run advantage and led to the Tornado’s most lopsided defeat this season.
“This is the first one all year that really got away from us,” said Norwich coach John Martinson. “They are an exceptional hitting team, and just caught fire in the third.”
Two errors combined with six basehits ignited the Yellowjackets’ attack. Devlin Vanderhoof had a double and a triple driving in three runs, and Lane Potter had three runs scored and two RBI.
Patrick Coates drove in two runs in the third on a double putting Norwich on top, 3-2.

CANASTOTA – Sherburne-Earlville is hoping the close-game results turn the other way soon after a fourth straight one-run loss to start the 2007 season, and fifth straight one-run loss to Canastota over the past three seasons.
Nick Freund hit a two-run triple in a three-run third that tied the game for the host club to fuel a comeback win.
Drew Doscher laced a two-run double int he first for S-E, who left too many runners on base throughout the game, said head coach Brian Hicks. “Our pitchers threw well and the defense was good,” Hicks said. “We didn’t take advantage of our opportunities and we’re just not getting the timely hitting we need. I know that will come around and the kids do too.”

GREENE – Greene ended a two-game league losing streak this week jumping on Delhi early and riding out the strong pitching performance of Don Amell Friday.
Nate Sprague delivered a two-out, two-run single, and Justin Van Wert added a two-run double to complete a five-run first.
Amell struck out 12 and walked two in six innings to earn the victory. “We did everything right tonight that as a coach you hope to see,” said Greene coach Dave Gorton. “We completely took them out of the game early.”
Corey Breck led with three hits, while VanWert and Nate Whittaker led with three RBI apiece. Amell, Mike Porter, and Dan Carlin had two hits each as Greene racked up 16 base hits in the contest.
The Trojans (1-2, 7-3) host Sidney today.

GREENE – Greene won for the second time in as many days getting a one-hitter from winning pitcher Megan McDermott Friday.
McDermott overcame early wildness to strike out 11 batters and walk five. “She had three walks in the first inning, but was much more in control and really settled down after that,” said Greene coach Rick Smith of his pitcher.

NORWICH – Norwich’s boys suffered a second straight tight loss, while the girls’ team lost by the exact same score for the second time this past week against Oneonta Friday.
The Yellowjackets’ boys can point to points sweeps in the 800 meters and triple jump as the decisive factor in their victory. Eric Muserallo and Jesse Prosser had three wins apiece for Norwich, and Prosser won the long jump with a personal-best 19 feet, 5 inches.
On girls’ side, the 1600-meter relay team of Katie Benenati, Sarah Bonnell, Emily Tackabury, and Elisha Eddy won for Norwich with a season-low 4:35.5, and senior Melinda Moore tossed the shot put a season-long 37 feet, 5 inches. “I was actually surprised because we were slower with the sprints and really fast with the relays,” said Norwich co-head coach Phil Curley.
Norwich is at Owego Wednesday and hosts the 2nd Annual REK Invitational Friday at 5 p.m.
