Car goes over the wall at Eckerd's

NORWICH – Tuesday morning the Norwich Fire Department responded to a parking lot mishap which resulted in an elderly woman being taken to the hospital.
Ruth Matteson was taken to Chenango Memorial Hospital for minor injuries. Matteson was going to leave the Eckerd parking lot, but apparently put her black Subaru Legacy into drive rather than reverse. The car lurched forward over a curb through some light shrubbery and then collided with a brick wall about two feet high with a metal fence running across the top of it.
The car struck the wall with such force that it smashed a good portion of the structure down, leaving the vehicle stuck on top of it. Matteson was unable to exit the vehicle until fire crews arrived and extracted her.
The Norwich Police Department said no tickets would be issued and her vehicle was removed with the help of a tow truck.
