Monday Evening Musical Club presents annual recital
NORWICH – The Monday Evening Musical Club presents the annual Scholarship Winners and Advanced Student Recital on Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the United Church of Christ, 11 West Main Street, Norwich.
This year’s scholarship winners are Rachel Perry of Otselic and Paige Vermaat from Greene. The daughter of Donald and Louise Perry of Otselic, Rachel is the Valedictorian of the Otselic Valley High School Class of 2007. She has been actively involved with music in her school and in the community for nine years playing flute, alto and bari-saxophone and piano. Rachel has participated in the OV marching and concert bands and has been a select member of Area All State Festivals, the Catskill All-Star Jazz Fest and All County Concert and Jazz Band serving as principal alto saxophonist. She studies privately with Bill and Michele Pomares of Norwich. Rachel will attend Ithaca College this fall majoring in Saxophone Performance and Music Education.
Also receiving a scholarship this year is soprano Paige Vermaat, daughter of Tim and Leslie Vermaat of Greene. Paige has participated in Mixed and Ladies Select Choruses at her school as well as All County, Area All State, and the prestigious Conference All State choruses. She is the President for the Chorus Club is also active in Footlights, Greene High School’s drama program. Paige studies voice privately with Hilerie Klein Rensi and plans to attend Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Mass. this fall majoring in music.
