S-E Drama Club recognized
SHERBURNE – The Sherburne-Earlville Drama Club received notification that they are recipients of two Theatre Association of New York State (TANYS) Roving Adjudicator Merit Awards following adjudication of their production of “You Can’t Take It With You,” performed on May 4 & 5 at the S-E High School Auditorium.
The cast will receive a Meritorious Achievement in Ensemble Acting, while Director Colleen Law-Tefft will receive a Meritorious Achievement in Directing Award.
“The talented students in the Sherburne-Earlville Drama Club delighted audiences as they brought new life to the classic comedy You Can’t Take It With You. Under the guidance of director Colleen Law-Tefft, the students worked with enthusiasm and dedication as an ensemble. This team work produced a well-acted, enjoyable production”, said TANYS Adjudicator Ruth Legg from Geneva.
Formal presentations of these awards will be held on Saturday, November 17, during the TANYS Festival Awards Banquet in Glens Falls as part of the 2007 TANYS Festival which runs Friday through Sunday, November 16, 17, & 18.
The Sherburne-Earlville Drama Club has had another busy year. In the fall they produced an evening of one-act plays (11 in all), which was also adjudicated by TANYS. Students Adrian Enscoe, Joe Mettler, Brenda Hoefler and Justine Cameron received performance awards and Ellen Fagan received a directing award for “Always.” Josh Ayers and Ellen Fagan received performance awards for “The Man Who Couldn’t Dance.” In January 2007, several students attended the NYSTEA (New York State Theatre Education Association) Student Conference in Kerhonkson, at the Hudson Valley Resort and Spa, where they were able to take workshops from professionals in the theatre world on a large variety of topics from Improvisation to Swing Dance to Audition Techniques, as well as workshops on the technical side of theatre. In April the Drama Club traveled to the Michael Harms Theatre Festival in Syracuse, where they performed two one-act plays ( “Always” and “Any Minute” ) from their fall production. This garnered them commendation awards for Mark Wessing (lighting & sound), Joe Mettler (writing, directing & acting) and Justine Cameron (acting). Scholarships went to Adrian Enscoe (performance), Shayna Andrews (stage manager) and Joe Mettler (writing, acting & directing “Any Minute”). Sherburne Earlville also received the Overall Award of Excellence for the festival. They finished their year on a high note with a successful spring production of “You Can’t Take It With You.”
