Cruise-In kicks off Classic Car Weekend
NORWICH – Norwich’s East Side Park will be alive with activity Friday night, as car enthusiasts from all over Chenango County are invited to show off their classic cars.
The Norwich Business Improvement District and the Norwich Merchants Association will be sponsoring the Classic Car Cruise-In, which will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, in East Park.
“The event is really a kick-off to the Memorial Day activities, centered around the Rolling Antiquers’ Classic Car Show,” said Pegi LoPresti, executive director of the BID.
Interested participants are invited to bring their classic or souped-up car to East Park on Friday night. “A real car enthusiast loves to show off their car and to talk about it,” said LoPresti. Those without classic cars are invited to come see what the Cruise-In has to offer. “The public is invited to come look at all the cars and check out all there is to see,” said LoPresti.
Entertainment will be provided by DJ Dick Talbot, and prizes will be given away throughout the night. All participants will receive a goody bag, prepared by the Norwich Merchants, and a tear off number, which could win them one of three cash prizes. The grand prize winner will take home $100, donated by the Norwich Police Department, and the two runners-up will take home $75 each, provided by the BID.
In the past the BID has had well over 100 cars and owners participate in the event. “There’s usually a broad range of cars,” said LoPresti. “This is our sixth year, and we’re always shocked at the number of people who come out.”
Admission to the Classic Car Cruise-In is free. “It’s a fun-filled night that brings hundreds of people to downtown,” said LoPresti.
