More businesses looking at Town of Norwich

NORWICH – From power lines to flood recovery to attracting new businesses, the town board had a full agenda to attend to at Monday’s meeting.
In a letter received by the board Monday, representatives from New York Regional Interconnect (NYRI) said they are trying to conduct a visual impact assessment to locate historical landmarks and “places of interest” for Chenango County residents to better look at the route of the power line and ensure the line does not include property that is of public interest. Town Supervisor David Law as well as the board agreed “all of Chenango County” is such a landmark, therefore the power line should be no where in it.
Over a year after flood waters ravaged roads and caused thousands of dollars in repairs, the money it took to re-construct damages has now been received from the Federal Emergency Management Agency in full.
Law says funding for damages which occurred from both the June and November 2006 flooding totals $947,572.53. “All of our debts have been paid,” he said.
Law also told board members up to four new businesses are looking into the Town of Norwich area, including a major department store.
Also on the agenda were things such as repairing pot holes at railroad crossings, the good job the cleaning crew from “Beautify Chenango” is doing and possibly looking into hiring a part-time code enforcer in 2008, which remains undecided at this time.
