The end of the summer brings all kinds of goodies. Let’s get on it and see what we’ve got. Strap in and hang on to your seats.
New on DVD
Blades of Glory - Everyone loves a great comedy and when it comes to strange combinations, that’s just the right time to see something funny. Will Farrell (Old School) and Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite) team up for the first time to tell the story of the first male figure skating team. Farrell plays Chazz Michael Michaels, a showoff but one that impresses every lady in the audience. Heder plays Jimmy Macelroy, a performer in his own right but with a more subtle style. These two guys hate each other and when their fight finally gets them barred from competing individually, an old figure skating coach (Craig T. Nelson) finds a way they can skate again. The two adversaries have to join forces and have to skate as a team. Can these two guys put aside their differences and make a crazy situation work? Grab this one to rent now. Farrell will return to the big screen in the comedy “Semi-Pro” in early 2008.
Heroes - TV Spotlight has one for patrollers that they can cannot pass up. “Heroes” hit the airwaves last year and has not stopped running yet. In the first episode, ordinary people all over the world are learning that they suddenly have special powers. Peter Petrelli (Milo Ventimiglia) starts to have dreams where he can fly. Artist Isaac Mendez (Santiago Cabrera) believes his paintings are events of the future. Cheerleader Claire Bennet (Hayden Panettiere) discovers she can recover from any injury. Housewife Nikki Sanders (Ali Larter) starts seeing things through mirrors. These are just some of the people Professor Mohinder Suresh (Sendhil Ramamurthy) has to find so he can figure out why his father mysteriously passed away. The Professor believes this is just the beginning. Is this the beginning of something great or could there be something more sinister on the horizon that would require the attention of these emerging heroes? Pick up Season One now in stores. Season Two premieres on NBC in late September and will have a spin-off “Heroes: Legends” coming soon.

Kickin It Old School - No matter how much someone tries, sometimes you just can’t escape your past. Take Justin Schumacher (Jamie Kennedy) for instance. He was just your typical kid growing up during the 1980s who enjoyed everything kids did and was an incredible break-dancer. When a freak accident puts him in a coma for 20 years, that just might put your plans on hold for a while. When Justin wakes up, the world is just a bit different than he remembered it. His clothes are 20 years out of date, the Internet has become the chosen form of communication, and his old girlfriend Jennifer (Maria Menounos) has gotten engaged to his old enemy Kip Unger (Michael Rosenbaum). Also, Justin also has other problems to deal with. His medical bills for his parents have endangered their livelihood when they have to close their yogurt shop. Our hero sees only one way to help his parents and get his girl back at the same time. It’s break-dancing time! Can Justin get his boys back together to win the dance contest to help his parents and win his girl back? Looks like a great one to pick up. Kennedy has some great DVDs available including “Son of the Mask,” “Malibu’s Most Wanted, and the “Scream” trilogy.
Forever Knight - Action Spotlight falls on a cult TV classic that will send chills up your spine. Meet Nick Knight (Geraint Wyn Davies), a good cop with one big secret. Nick was born over 500 years ago and just happens to be a vampire. In the first episode, Nick works on a case where a Mayan cup is stolen and may hold the cure he wants to free himself from being a vampire. When Nick’s old master Lacroix (Nigel Bennett) is back in town and wants revenge on Nick, this complicates matters even more. Can Nick stop Lacroix in time and get the cure? Grab this one in stores now. Season One and Two are now available.
Casper’s Scare School/Legion of Super Heroes - Two DVDs come out this week in Animation Spotlight when Casper returns in “Casper’s Scare School.” Casper just wants to learn how to be scary and when he decides to attend a new school to learn scary ways, Casper runs across some characters with an evil plan to destroy the world. Can Casper stop the plan in time? Also, Superman returns with an all new group of friends in “Legion of Super Heroes.” When a group of super human teenagers from the 31st century need help, they do a little time traveling to get help to deal with an alien threat. They decide to recruit Superman but their plans don’t go the way they plan. They bring a young Clark Kent to the future and then can’t return him to his time.
