Cyclones sweep four games in home opener
NORWICH –The Cyclones opened their 2007 season Sunday winning all four games at Alumni Field
The new "D" team, comprised of 7- and 8-year-olds, turned back Chittenango 25-13 in its first-ever game.
In the “C” team game, the Cyclones went away with a 34-12 victory against Chittenango.
Killian Benedict opened Cyclones’ scoring with a 25-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Michael Oralls added a 24-yard TD, with John Marvin adding the point-after touchdown (PAT), Marvin had a nifty 40-yard TD scamper in the second, with Adrian Hoffinan adding the PAT Landon Cummings added a safety in the second for a 22-0 halftime lead.
In the third quarter, Everett Thompson could not be caught on a 30-yard touchdown jaunt. Tristan Rifanburg closed the scoring with a 15-yard TD after returning a Bears kickoff 56 yards.
Landon Cummings, Joe Nelson, Hoffman, Marvin, Benedict, Oralls, Matthew Craig, Jordan Vinal, and Tyier Roberts led the Cyclones’ defense.
In the "B" team game, the Cyclones prevailed with a hard-fought 12-6 victory over Marcy-Deerfield (Whitesboro).
Jaden McCrabie opened the Cyclones’ scoring in the first quarter on a two-yard plunge to paydirt. With the score tied, 6-6, Michael Sutton hit Jordan Lockwood on a 40-yard pass, and followed with an 11-yard TD toss to Robert Wheeler for the win. Wheeler led the Cyclones’ rushing attack.
On defense, the Cyclones had four interceptions – Sutton with two, and Wheeler and Lockwood adding one each. Lockwood also recovered a kickof. Alex Tubolino, McCrabie, Frank Garcia, and Keagan Franklin played big on defense.
In the final game, the Cyclones’ "A" team turned back Canastota 32-6.
Paul Wonka opened the Cyclones’ scoring in the first quarter on a fourr-yard TD run after Dallas Moryl returned the opening kickoff to the 30. Dennis Oralls hit Nate Ashton on a 17-yard touchdown pass for the next score. Oralls was 4-for-4 for 56 yards on the day.
Cody Bradbury scored on an 11-yard TD run for a 24-0 halftime lead, and Grant Brightman closed scoring on a 24-yard ramble to paydirt in the second half.
Ashton went 4-for-4 in PATs, and his kickoffs pinned Canastota deep – once inside the 10.
On defense, Cassie Sutton, Bradbury, Brightman, Wonka, Ashton, Kyle Edwards, Brandon Miles, Shawn Roach and Oralls came up big for the Cyclones.
