Valley Heights splits opening games

 SOUTHWEST OSWEGO - Valley Heights Christian Academy Crusaders opened their soccer schedule on the road last weekend at the Port City Royals.  The Lady Crusaders fell, 4-1, and the boys came home with a 7-4 victory.

Jordana O'Brien scored two first-period and two second-period goals for the Royals.  The first was on a penalty kick at the four-minute mark, and the second at 6:21 of the first half.  In the second half she scored just 34 seconds into the period.  Hannah Vidler put the Crusaders on the scoreboard at 12:56 and O'Brien closed out the scoring at 14 minutes of the second half.

The boys’ game started much the same with Ryan Chartrand scoring at 7:42 and brother Jacob Chartrand adding a second goal at 11:19 of the first half. 

Luke Halberg started the Crusaders’ scoring his first goal a 14:53 and a second at 17:24.  J. Chartrand netted his second goal at 22:32. Halberg scored a third first-half goal at 23:00 and Ryan Rose closed out the first-half scoring at 26:15 giving the Crusaders a 4-3 halftime lead.

J. Chartrand opened the second-half scoring netting a third goal at 1:40.  Halberg added three second-half goals at 12:15, 27:24 and with only nine seconds left on the clock.

The Crusaders’ next game is Sept. 21 hosting Cortland Christian Academy at Weiler Park.  The girl’s game starts at 6 p.m. followed by the boys’ game at 7:30 p.m.  Saturday, Sept. 22, the Crusaders host Emmanuel Baptist of Penn Yan.  Girls begin at 11:30 a.m .and the boys’ game at 1 p.m.
