Chenango River Theatre: Equity & Non-Equity Auditions for A Shayna Maidel
GREENE – The Chenango River Theatre, the Binghamton area’s professional, non-profit theatre company, will hold auditions for “A Shayna Maidel,” the emotional story of the post-war reunion of a Polish family separated first by the Great Depression and then the Holocaust. Auditions are by appointment, on Tuesday at the theatre in Greene.
Auditions are for both Equity and non-Equity actors, with all actors compensated for their work. Actors will need a monologue, not more than two minutes in length. Monologues should be from a contemporary American play from 1950 or later. In addition, actors may be asked to read from the scripts. Scripts are available in advance by contacting the theatre. Actors should bring a resume and headshot to the auditions.
”A Shayna Maidel” goes into rehearsal Oct. 9 and opens Oct. 26. Rehearsals will be 5 to 6 days a week, primarily on evenings and weekends.
Roles available are:
• Rose: early-mid 20s, totally Americanized.
• Lusia: Rose’s older sister, late 20s (younger in flashbacks), Holocaust survivor. • Duvid: Lusia's husband, late 20s (younger in flashbacks).
• Mama: mother of Rose and Luisia, ranges from 30 to 40.
• Hanna: Lusia’s childhood friend, late 20s (younger in flashbacks).
• Mordechai: father, 60s, strong Yiddish accent.
