State Troopers look for new barracks in Norwich
NORWICH – The New York State Troopers are actively searching to replace their current Norwich headquarters.
The current barracks are located on state Rt. 12 a few hundred yards south of Wal-Mart in the Town of Norwich.
Captain Rodney W. Campbell said that the current trooper location in Norwich was ideal, but the building itself could no longer support the growing staff and their technological needs.
“It’s been a few decades since the building was built – 1977 I believe – and the technological and equipment needs of several police departments across the state have grown considerably. We have also increased our staffing levels since then, in addition to other growing concerns,” said Campbell. The captain said he could not remember the exact numbers, but said there had been a slow and steady growth of personnel.
