AFTON – New York State Troopers responded to an apparent shooting accident involving a five-year-old boy that occurred late Monday night.

The boy was transported to Lourdes Hospital in the City of Binghamton and treated for “non life-threatening injuries,” said police. Bullet fragments were removed from the boy’s face after a bullet traveled through two walls and struck him while he laid on the living room couch.

The State Troopers, Chenango County Sheriff’s Office, Afton Police and the Chenango County District Attorney’s Office are still investigating the alleged accident.
