EDITOR’S NOTE: The Bricks & Mortar Report provide updates every other Monday on major construction projects in Chenango County.

AIM Fitness:
• Exercising equipment arrived last week. Management said they hoped to be open by the end of the month.

Chenango County Public Works Department:
• A $51,000 bid to replace the roof at the Chenango County Highway garage on Rexford Street was accepted by county lawmakers this month.
• Station upgrades are also planned at Brisben transfer station.

Chenango County Fire Department Tower Project:
• A 250-ton crane was delivered to the Town of Pharsalia tower site over the weekend. Chenango County Emergency Management Office Director Matt Beckwith said the Pharsalia tower and Town of Otselic tower would be erected early this week.
• Prep work at the tower sites at Cook Park in Greene and in Coventry is complete. The emergency communications towers are to be erected there next week or the week after that, Beckwith said.

Dunkin’ Donuts:
• Groundbreaking has been delayed again. Town officials couldn’t say whether or not a contractor had signed on for the project.

Habitat for Humanity:
• On Saturday, Oct. 13, an open house was held at the recently completed Habitat for Humanity house located on Adams Street in Norwich. After nearly three years of work, the house was completed and is now ready for a family to occupy.
• The recipients of the house, James and Ainekisha (Kisha) Mutabiilwa and their children, have worked along side the volunteers to see the project completed. Habitat has been working on the three bedroom, two bath house since May of 2005.
• A new Habitat for Humanity House is scheduled to be built in Greene.

Halfway House Bridge (County Route 32B):
• Work on the Halfway House bridge in between Oxford and Norwich continues. The bridge was closed on Friday after state inspections last week.

Housing Starts (modular, double wide and stick built):
• Chenango County Codes Enforcement reported the following new housing starts in September: one each in the townships of Afton, Coventry, Lincklaen, McDonough, Pitcher, Plymouth and Sherburne. There were two housing starts each in the towns of Oxford, Norwich and North Norwich.

Peebles Department Store:
• Store owners are targeting a March 13 opening date for this general merchandise store going into the south shopping plaza across from Price Chopper.
