EDITOR’S NOTE: The Bricks & Mortar Report provides updates on major construction projects in Chenango County.
Chenango Union Printing, Inc.:
• Third generation owners Andrew and Pam Phelps recently began the construction of a 42x54 foot addition onto the east side of their American Avenue building.
• Chenango Union Printing, Inc., a Norwich-based business since 1816, is currently in the process of purchasing a new enterprise that will occupy the space: Direct Mailing Solutions, LLC of Oneonta.
• The building project began Oct. 24 and has an anticipated completion date of Nov. 23.
• Chenango Union Printing, Inc. has been in the Phelps family since 1945.
New York State Veterans’ Home:
• This $66 million, 220,000 square feet project underway in the Town of Oxford has an anticipated June 2008 completion date, according to the New York State Dormatory Authority.
• Each of the structure’s four wings are being completed sequentially, with all but one already enclosed for the winter. Electrical and plumbing, sheetrocking, ceiling duct and piping work, interior painting and exterior siding work continues.
• Two of the wings have temporary heat installed.
• The new Veterans’ Home will replace the in-use facility located directly in front of it, just south of the Village of Oxford on county Route 32. It will be 50 percent larger and is intended to provide veterans with more efficient access to therapies, shops and activities.
• New York State Department of Health officials have said the new building will be afforded by a $43 million federal grant along with DOH and veterans’ funds.
