Isabelle Garbani is a people-watcher; then she translates her interpretations of idiosyncratic behavior through form, materials and color.  “In the Abstractions series, I focus on the meaning of the observed human gestures, and push form and materials to have every aspect of the sculptures support the concept ... I combine geometric forms, with organic ones to illustrate our fear of chaos, disorder, and our many attempts at controlling the wild and the natural.

“In the New York Series, the theme revolves around the ephemeral nature of a culture. The sculptures describe a moment of idiosyncratic behavior (dog walking, smoking outside, talking on a cell phone). The forms are the concept: they are reminiscent of smoke to make the figures look fragile, like they will disappear as soon as you have turned away.”  Garbani has an MFA in Sculpture from the New York Academy of Art.
