Norwich man has several run-ins with the law
NORWICH – A man who has been arrested three times in the last two weeks was taken into custody for a fourth time Thursday by the Norwich Police Department.
Terry L. Sturdevant Jr., 20, of 23 Silver St., Norwich, was arrested yesterday for criminal possession of stolen property. He allegedly had DVDs owned by Guernsey Memorial Library on his person when police were questioning him about a suspected burglary.
On Sunday, police arrested Sturdevant for petit larceny - for stealing from the P&C grocery store in downtown Norwich - then they arrested him again on Wednesday for sixth degree conspiracy because he was allegedly planning on committing a theft. The day before that arrest, the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office had arrested Sturdevant on an active bench warrant from the Town of Preston for failure to pay a fine.
Emergency crews were responding to a fire on Steer Lane yesterday when they noticed two suspicious men near a Cortland Street residence. Upon further investigation, police discovered the stolen DVDs.
