SOUTH OTSELIC – It was a better start than last year for the Vikings, who avenged an defeat to Edmeston in last year’s season opener.
David Cerasani hit two three balls in the third quarter scoring 10 of his 24 points, and Taylor Duell finished with 25 points and 10 rebounds for the Vikings. “This is one of the best starts ever for us to start the season,” said OV coach Dave Loomis. “We had a couple of tough scrimmages and didn’t look good, so the kids took this serious. We came out and played well to start the game.”
The Vikings, last year’s Section III, Class D-2 champions, play at Morrisville-Eaton tonight in the first round of M-E’s Thanksgiving tourney.

EDMESTON – Afton advanced to the finals of the Edmeston Tournament, and will face MAC division rival Oxford tonight at 5 p.m.
The Crimson Knights placed four in double figures scoring led by 13 from Heather Simonds. Jessie Winans scored 12, while Melissa Oswald and Stephanie Parsons bucketed 11 apiece. “We had good balance, and I expect that this year,” said Afton coach John Simonds. “That experience should hopefully translate into a few more wins.”
Oswald and Simonds led with nine rebounds apiece.

Norwich beats division champs
NORWICH – Coming off an opening loss at Vestal, Norwich rebounded last weekend knocking off defending STAC Central division champion and Class B titlist Johnson City, 7-0.
Norwich fired a 3,168 team total at Plaza Lanes led by Dustin Jenkins’ 702 series. Chasen Smith added a 671, James Glover fired a 637, and Kyle Ewen had a 613 series to propel the Tornado.
Norwich followed that up with a second-place finish at 9th Annual HS Thanksgiving Tournament at Midway Lanes in Vestal behind JC. Ewen’s 653 series placed him third individually as Norwich totaled 2,955.
